Our Story

The founders of Willow Family Resource Centre have worked in social services in rural Western Manitoba. Part of working in social services includes trying to connect with other social supports. Through making connections and lived experiences, the founding members recognized how “the village” that is so often talked about in raising a child, is missing.

Each member’s heartbeat is for flourishing families and strong communities. Out of this place, Willow began to be created. From there, founders met with social service providers within the communities across Manitoba to learn more about what they dreaming about for families.

Out of this research, Willow began to see the need for:

  • Connection between community members
  • Connection to professional and basic needs services

This became the foundation of creating the vision of involved communities creating flourishing families. As Willow evolves and grows, the aim is to stay deeply responsive to the needs of the communities we are working on.

Currently Willow Family Resource Centre is a registered non-profit organization in Western Manitoba located in Carberry, MB and Neepawa, MB continuing market research and beginning program development.

Values

As an organization, Willow holds safety, adventure, co-creation and hope as central to everything we do.

Safety

Safety encompasses physical, mental and emotional safety. Willow prioritizes being a safe place to ask for help and to be yourself, fully and authentically.

Adventure

The value of adventure encourage each person to go beyond their comfort zone and to try new things; to grow, learn more about yourself, your family and community.

Co-Creation

Co-creation means that each and every individual’s voice is valued and taken seriously. It means that from the youngest members of Willow to elders, we are all a part of creating a safe village together.

Hope

Centering around hope means shifting from a fear mindset into a growth mindset, and recognizing that we can heal at any time. Willow believes that no matter the situation, hope has the power to break through.
